Camera House Second Hand Privacy Notice

This notice summarises how personal information is handled when you sell or trade equipment through the Camera House Second Hand Program. For complete information, read the Camera House Privacy Policy.

1. Who purchases your equipment

  • Online transaction: Raleru Limited, ABN 52 002 575 340, is the purchaser and operates the central Second Hand platform.
  • In-store transaction: the participating Camera House store identified in your transaction notice is the purchaser under its applicable second-hand dealer licence or registration.

Raleru centrally stores and administers Program information. The purchasing store may access information relating to its transaction only where necessary to complete the purchase or meet its legal obligations. Other Camera House stores do not receive access merely because they operate under the Camera House brand.

2. Information we collect

  • name, date of birth, residential address and contact details;
  • legally required identity-document particulars, ownership statements and authority information;
  • where applicable, identity-document images and additional address evidence;
  • if you choose biometric verification, a selfie, facial-matching and/or liveness information processed using Didit;
  • equipment details, photographs, serial numbers, condition, quotes and transaction records;
  • bank-account details where EFT is selected; and
  • communications relating to the transaction.

You or an authorised representative must be at least 18 years old. If the identity evidence relied upon does not show the residential address required for the transaction, you must provide acceptable additional address evidence. The transaction notice will explain what is required and whether an image or copy will be retained.

3. Identity verification

The Buyer must collect identity, address, ownership and transaction information required by the dealer rules applying to your transaction. These legal record requirements are separate from additional biometric verification.

Where available for your transaction, you may choose:

  • biometric verification using Didit, involving a selfie, facial matching and/or a liveness check; or
  • staff-assisted non-biometric verification, where that process can satisfy the applicable legal and operational requirements.

A separate notice and unticked consent control will be displayed before our partner Didit collects biometric information. Marketing consent is separate.

A failed, incomplete or inconclusive Didit result does not automatically reject your transaction. Authorised staff will review it and may allow correction, another capture, additional evidence or staff-assisted verification. If the legally required evidence cannot be established, the Buyer cannot complete the purchase.

Didit or approved subprocessors may process, store or access identity-verification information outside Australia.

More information will be provided in the separate verification notice and the Didit verification privacy notice.

4. How we use information

  • verify identity, age, residential address, ownership and authority to sell;
  • assess equipment, prepare quotes and complete the purchase;
  • make and administer payments;
  • send operational transaction updates;
  • prevent and investigate fraud, theft and unlawful activity;
  • maintain required dealer, transaction, taxation and accounting records;
  • meet lawful police, court, regulator and government requirements; and
  • manage complaints, disputes, insurance matters and legal claims.

5. Who may access or receive information

We limit access and disclosure to the minimum information reasonably necessary. Depending on the transaction, recipients may include:

  • authorised Raleru personnel and the participating store purchasing your equipment;
  • Didit and approved identity-verification subprocessors;
  • providers supporting hosting, the platform, record storage, communications, payments or gift cards, logistics, IT support, security and fraud or stolen-goods checks;
  • external lawyers, insurers and other professional advisers where reasonably necessary for advice, complaints, insurance, disputes, regulatory matters or legal claims; and
  • police, courts, regulators and government or enforcement bodies where required, authorised or otherwise permitted by law.

Information collected under dealer legislation may be subject to additional confidentiality restrictions. We do not sell personal information or provide it to participating stores for unrelated marketing.

6. How long we keep information

We do not apply one retention period to every type of information. Each category is kept for the period required or permitted for the relevant Buyer, transaction, record and purpose. Dealer records, financial records, transaction information, ID images and biometric information may therefore have different retention periods.

ID images, selfies, liveness information and other biometric information are not retained merely because an unrelated dealer or financial record must be kept longer. Didit will be configured with finite retention, and Camera House will not permit Didit to use Second Hand information for model training, fine-tuning, model evaluation, dataset curation or training-data exports.

When information is no longer needed and does not have to be retained, we take reasonable steps to destroy or properly de-identify it. Pseudonymised or coded information remains protected as personal information where re-identification is reasonably possible.

7. Marketing and transaction communications

We may send necessary email or SMS messages about verification, quotes, payment, collection or delivery and transaction status. Marketing is optional and requires separate consent.

8. Your equipment and personal data

Before handing over equipment, remove personal files and accounts, disable device or activation locks, reset the equipment where appropriate, and remove memory cards, SIM cards and other removable media.

If we find personal information or removable storage after accepting equipment, we will restrict access. Where appropriate, lawful and reasonably practicable, we will attempt to contact you and arrange return. Otherwise, we will take reasonable steps to securely remove or destroy the information or media where lawful and practicable. Dealer holding periods, police or regulatory requirements, investigations, disputes or other legal obligations may delay or restrict these actions.

We take reasonable steps to remove identified personal information and accounts before equipment is made available for resale.

9. Legal requirements applying to your transaction

Identity, ownership, recordkeeping, police-reporting and goods-holding requirements differ between Australian states and territories. Before collecting required information, the transaction notice will identify the Buyer and the legal collection requirements applying in the relevant jurisdiction.

For a transaction governed by NSW dealer law, the Buyer operates under the Pawnbrokers and Second-hand Dealers Act 1996 (NSW) and the Pawnbrokers and Second-hand Dealers Regulation 2026 (NSW). Other jurisdictions will be separately validated before the Program launches there.

10. Your privacy rights

You may request access to personal information held about you, correction of inaccurate information, deletion where available, withdrawal of biometric consent or information about how your information has been handled. Legal retention requirements may limit deletion but do not automatically prevent access or correction.
